What a great theme for next year’s summer reading program! So many possibilities for routines and books, this is going to be a fantastic show. Some of the books I am considering are ‘The BFG’ by Roald Dahl (one of my absolute favorite children’s authors), ‘Clifford the Big Red Dog’, ‘Stuart Little’ (a small mouse with a BIG heart), and ‘The Elephant’s Child’ by Rudyard Kipling, just to mention a few. Dates fill quickly, so book early to assure your preferred date and time.
One of the staples of my birthday party show is Gus, the stunt chicken, an adorable plush chicken by children’s author Sandra Boynton. Gus has a number of adventures, among them doing the chicken dance, braving the Transmogrifier and riding the Chicken Chucker 2000 through the Ring of Fire. I recently received a card from a first grader in thanks for performing at his birthday party, featuring Gus. It is so cute that I have to post it here for everyone to enjoy.
I recently performed for the Sisters Volunteer Firefighters – a great group of people doing a fantastic job, all for the benefit of their local community. We had a wonderful time, and I especially appreciated Rex and John helping out with one of the effects. Thanks, guys!

Rex and John Helping Out
One of the wonderful things about performing for children is the immediate feedback you receive. I recently performed a birthday party for a 7 year old, and as I was leaving, one of the children calls out “Goodbye! You were awesome! I’ll miss you!”. Made my day…
Saturday, March 19th was the first of a regular monthly gig at El Burrito Restaurant, located at 335 Northeast Dekalb Avenue in Bend. I will be performing strolling, table-side magic at the restaurant on the second Saturday of every month from 5:00 – 7:00. El Burrito is my family’s favorite mexican restaurant, featuring great food, home-made tortillas and wonderful home-made ice cream, all at very reasonable prices, so I am very excited to be able to perform here on a regular basis. Come join us for great food and a fun and amazing experience!
Yes, it is already time to start thinking about next year’s summer reading program. The theme for 2011 is “One World, Many Stories”, which lends itself well to exploring lots of books from other cultures. ”Anansi the Spider”, “The King of Ireland’s Son”, “Anne of Green Gables”, “Pippi Longstocking”, “Aladdin”, Rudyard Kipling’s “Just So Stories” and “Hansel and Gretel” are just some of the books that I am considering incorporating into this new show. This is a wonderful opportunity to introduce other cultures to the children, stimulating their imaginations with tales from distant lands and exotic places. Slots fill quickly, so book now to ensure you get your preferred date.
